Cotes Du Rhone is a red wine made by Domaine Clape from Syrah in France, in Côtes du Rhône, St. Péray.
Auguste Clape, a proud and uncompromising pioneer of fine winemaking in the Northern Rhône, his Syrahs from the cru de Cornas have earned their place among France's most celebrated wines.
Although the Clapes farm only eight hectares, the challenge presented by Cornas' rough, tightly packed terraced vineyards is enough to handle by anyone's standards. The dangerous cliffs make it impossible to use any machinery in the vineyards. All work must be done by hand. There are no official rules for their winemaking methodology: they work the old-fashioned way, by instinct, feeling and common sense.
These Cornas are capable of tremendous longevity in the cellar, although they also encourage tasting them while they are young and fresh, to better appreciate the evolution to come.
It comes from soils with a granitic base and a very stony surface. The old Syrah plants extract from it all the minerality and strength of the terroir. This wine offers a taste of the estate's style and is absolutely impressive value for money.
