More info
Saint Peray is a white wine made by Domaine Clape from Marsanne and Roussanne in France, in Côtes du Rhône, St. Péray.
Auguste Clape, a proud and uncompromising pioneer of fine winemaking in the Northern Rhône, his Syrahs from the Cornas cru have earned their place among France's most celebrated wines.
Although the Clapes farm only eight hectares, the challenge presented by Cornas' rough, tightly packed terraced vineyards is enough to handle by anyone's standards. The dangerous cliffs make it impossible to use any machinery in the vineyards. All work must be done by hand. There are no official rules for their winemaking methodology: they work the old-fashioned way, by instinct, feeling and common sense.
These Cornas are capable of tremendous longevity in the cellar, although they also encourage tasting them while they are young and fresh, to better appreciate the evolution to come.
This Marsanne - Roussanne blend is very rare, with only 4000 bottles produced per year. It is the only white wine produced at the legendary Domaine Auguste Clape, and comes from the small (65 hectares) appellation of Saint-Péray on the west bank of the Rhône opposite Valence.
Domaine Clape Saint Peray Tasting Notes
This Saint Péray, an elegant white wine from the Rhône, is difficult to obtain 'sur place', let alone on foreign shores. It has attractive apricot aromas and a soft-textured, medium-weight palate of plums and peaches with subtle, savoury notes of fennel and minerals and a lingering, dry finish.
