Puligny-Montrachet Blanc de Ropiteau Frères 2023
D.O Burgundy
Chardonnay
Description
The Puligny-Montrachet Blanc from Ropiteau Frères is one of the most sublime, prestigious, and refined expressions of the Chardonnay grape in the Côte de Beaune, Burgundy.
Founded in 1848 by Jean Ropiteau, the historic Maison Ropiteau Frères has established itself over the decades as an indisputable benchmark in the production of great white Burgundy wines, particularly in Meursault and its neighboring appellations of the Côte d'Or. This Puligny-Montrachet comes from meticulously selected parcels with optimal sun exposure, where clay-limestone soils rich in marine sediments and Jurassic limestone bestow upon the wine its unmistakable mineral character, its salinity, and its elegant structural tension.
This vintage was characterized by an exceptional climatological balance in the region, allowing for a slow, progressive, and perfect ripening of the berries, which helped preserve a vibrant acidity and an outstanding aromatic concentration.
In the cellar, winemaking follows a strictly artisanal and minimal intervention approach to respect the typicity of each parcel. Following a meticulous manual harvest and a rigorous selection of the clusters, a very gentle pneumatic pressing is carried out. The resulting must ferments in professional oak barrels, with a moderate use of new wood (approximately 20%) to avoid masking the purity of the terroir. Subsequently, the wine undergoes complete malolactic fermentation and is aged on its fine lees for a period of 12 months with periodic stirring (bâtonnage), which imparts a silky texture, volume on the palate, and an unparalleled aromatic complexity.
The final result is a white wine of great lineage and longevity, which perfectly balances citric freshness with the opulence of dried fruits, notes of fresh butter, and toasted touches, consolidating once again the reputation of Puligny-Montrachet as the indisputable cradle of the finest white wines in the world.
