Description

Tokaj Oremus Late Harvest is one of the most refined and accessible gems of the legendary Tokaj-Hegyalja wine region in Hungary. Produced by the prestigious Oremus winery, owned by Tempos Vega Sicilia since 1993, this late harvest sweet wine represents the perfect harmony between centuries-old tradition and modern winemaking precision.

The vineyard extends across volcanic soils rich in clay and loess, located at an altitude of between 100 and 200 metres above sea level. The area's unique microclimate, created by the confluence of the Bodrog and Hernád rivers, produces dense morning mists followed by sunny, dry autumn afternoons, creating ideal conditions for the development of noble rot (Botrytis cinerea). This wine is masterfully blended from the indigenous varieties Furmint (which provides vibrant structural acidity), Hárslevelű (which contributes richness and a silky texture), Sárgamuskotály (Yellow Muscat, enhancing aromatic complexity), together with smaller proportions of Kövérszőlő and Zéta.

The wine is crafted through an extremely meticulous manual harvest, selecting only bunches containing at least 50% botrytised and overripe berries. After destemming and a skin maceration lasting between 4 and 12 hours, the must undergoes a slow fermentation in stainless steel tanks for 15 to 25 days. The wine is then aged for two months in new 220-litre Hungarian oak barrels known as "szerednyei", followed by a minimum of six months of bottle ageing before release.

With approximately 91 g/l of residual sugar, perfectly balanced by fresh acidity, Tokaj Oremus Late Harvest is a wine of sublime elegance—silky, vibrant and remarkably versatile. It is the ideal introduction to the magical world of Tokaj sweet wines, offering a lighter and fresher alternative to the richer Aszú wines while preserving the noble complexity that defines the region.

Serving Recommendation

Serve chilled, ideally between 6 and 8°C, in a medium-sized white wine glass or a Sauternes-style dessert wine glass. This is an exceptionally versatile wine: perfect as an aperitif or welcome drink, pairing beautifully with foie gras, medium-intensity blue cheeses such as Roquefort or Gorgonzola, desserts based on tangy fruits such as lemon, apple or apricot, as well as spicy or sweet-and-sour Asian cuisine.
