Description

Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage Collection 1999 is a work of art from the prestigious Maison in Épernay, representing the 66th vintage in its history.

This jewel of the Collection range personifies the excellence of late disgorgement, having matured for more than fifteen years in the house's deep chalk cellars. The year 1999 was marked by a climate of extreme contrasts, with an unusually hot and dry summer that resulted in a harvest of exceptional richness and maturity.

The blend of this collector's champagne is composed of 38% Pinot Noir, which provides structure and strength; 31% Chardonnay, which grants elegance and mineral freshness; and 31% Pinot Meunier, which adds roundness and a fleshy fruitiness. Produced under the strict supervision of the Chef de Cave, Benoît Gouez, this Extra Brut (with a dosage of just 5 g/l) stands out for its evolutionary complexity.

The grapes come from vineyards classified mainly as Grand Cru and Premier Cru in the Montagne de Reims, the Vallée de la Marne, and the Côte des Blancs. Malolactic fermentation is carried out completely to soften the acidity and enhance the creaminess. This champagne is an indispensable collector's item for lovers of luxury and high oenology, offering extraordinary longevity and unmatched aromatic depth.

Its prolonged aging on lees gives it a velvety texture and a complexity that only time can sculpt, making it a liquid testament to the artisanal mastery of Moët & Chandon. In the vineyard, rigorous selection of plots ensures that only fruit with the perfect balance of sugar and acidity enters the pressing. Vinification is carried out with extremely precise temperature control, followed by aging in rima that far exceeds the standard requirements of the appellation. Each bottle of the Grand Vintage Collection is a tribute to the uniqueness of an unrepeatable year, offering a sublime sensory experience that evolves majestically in the glass.

Tasting Note of Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage Collection 1999:

Visual Phase: Deep golden yellow color with amber flashes and extremely fine, slow, and persistent bubbles.

Olfactory Phase: Complex and mature nose. Notes of bakery, toasted brioche, dried fruits (hazelnut, almond), coffee, and honey stand out, followed by ripe fruits such as peach and candied citrus notes.

Gustatory Phase: In the mouth it is ample, silky, and of great volume. Superb balance between citrus freshness and the warmth of tertiary notes. Long, mineral, and slightly saline finish.

Technical Specifications: Alcohol: 12.5% Vol. Dosage: 5 g/l (Extra Brut). Aging: +15 years on lees.

Value Points

Historical Vintage 1999: A year of extreme climatic contrasts that resulted in one of the richest and most mature harvests of the late 20th century.

Late Disgorgement (Collection): Patiently aged on its lees for more than 15 years in the underground cellars of Épernay.

Master Blend: Perfect balance of 38% Pinot Noir, 31% Chardonnay, and 31% Pinot Meunier. Extra Brut Dosage: A minimal dosage of 5 g/l that preserves the purity, mineral freshness, and authenticity of the Champagne terroir.

Service Protocol

Serve at a recommended temperature between 10°C and 12°C to allow the full opening of its complex tertiary aromas.

It is advisable to use a medium-bodied white wine glass or a wide-mouthed champagne glass instead of the classic flute glass.

Ideal pairing with haute cuisine dishes such as roasted lobster, turbot with Hollandaise sauce, glazed veal sweetbreads, or long-matured hard cheeses such as Comté.
