Description

Tenuta di Carleone Uno is the crown jewel and flagship wine of the prestigious Tenuta di Carleone winery, located in the heart of Radda in Chianti, Tuscany.

Founded in 2012 by Austrian entrepreneur Karl Egger alongside the charismatic and visionary English winemaker Sean O'Callaghan (affectionately known as 'Il Guercio'), this property has revolutionized the interpretation of the Sangiovese grape. The vineyard is situated on Alberese soils, composed of limestone, clay, and schist, at high altitudes that provide unparalleled freshness and tension. Uno is a 100% Sangiovese monovarietal made from a rigorous selection of the estate's finest plots.

The philosophy of minimal intervention guides the entire process: the grapes are harvested by hand and trodden by foot, followed by a spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks and open vats. Skin maceration is exceptionally prolonged for 40 to 60 days to extract the purest essence of the fruit without over-extraction. Subsequently, the wine undergoes an 18-month aging period, where 90% matures in concrete and stainless steel tanks, and only 10% does so in partially new oak barrels (tonneaux). It is bottled without fining or filtering, with a minimal addition of sulfites, preserving its natural and biodynamic character.

This vintage, which commemorates Sean O'Callaghan's thirtieth harvest in the region, stands out for its vibrant acidity, polished tannins, and a depth that evokes the great classics of Burgundy or even the mythical Château Haut-Brion, according to international critics. A collector's wine with an extraordinary aging potential.

Tasting Note of Tenuta di Carleone uno:

Visual phase: Translucent cherry red color, bright and of medium-low intensity, faithful to the classic style of pure Sangiovese.

Olfactory phase: Complex nose of great precision. Aromas of sour cherries, morello cherries, and fresh red fruit stand out, intertwined with notes of underbrush, crushed stone, violets, dark chocolate, fine leather, and a subtle spicy touch.

Gustatory phase: On the palate, it is electric, fresh, and of great tension. It presents a vibrant acidic structure that perfectly balances firm yet extremely polished and silky tannins. Long, persistent, and deeply elegant finish, with mineral and fruity memories.

Technical specifications: 100% Sangiovese, 13.5% Vol., certified organic and biodynamic agriculture, minimal sulfites.
