Description

The Sandeman 10 Years Old Tawny Port is an exceptional fortified wine that perfectly embodies the mastery, technical rigor, and rich historical heritage of the prestigious Sandeman winery, originally founded in 1790 by the visionary George Sandeman.

This distinguished 10-year-old Tawny is the direct result of a meticulous selection of Port wines patiently aged in traditional oak casks for an average period ranging between 9 and 12 years. Crafted in the iconic and rugged Douro region (D.O.C. Porto), this fortified wine masterfully combines the fruity freshness of its youth with the aromatic and structural complexity bestowed by the maturity of noble wood.

The grapes used in its blend come from the most select and best-exposed vineyards in the Douro Valley, cultivated in characteristic schist soils that contribute a singular minerality. The blend includes traditional native varieties of the region such as Tinta Amarela, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão, Touriga Franca, and Touriga Nacional. The winemaking process strictly follows the traditional Port wine method: after a rigorous manual harvest, the grapes undergo destemming and crushing before starting fermentation with skin maceration at a controlled temperature to extract the finest color and tannin components.

At the optimal moment determined by the winemaker, fermentation is halted by adding high-quality wine spirit (fortification), achieving a perfect balance between body, natural sweetness, and aromatic bouquet. Subsequently, the wine is transferred to Sandeman's centuries-old, shaded cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia, where it matures under the watchful eye of the master blenders. The final result is a vibrant, elegant, silky, and highly balanced Tawny Port, ideal both for lovers of high-end fortified wines and for collectors seeking the ultimate expression of the Douro on their table.
