Description

Viña Ardanza Reserva is one of the great icons of the D.O.Ca. Rioja and the flagship of the mythical La Rioja Alta, S.A. winery. Crafted with a traditional blend perfected over decades, it combines 80% Tempranillo from the La Cuesta and Montecillo estates in Fuenmayor and Cenicero, with 20% Garnacha from the La Pedriza estate in Tudelilla (Rioja Oriental). This stony-soiled vineyard provides an unparalleled typicity, structure, and aromatic richness to the Garnacha. The harvest is carried out manually under strict temperature control. After a rigorous optical selection at the winery, each variety undergoes fermentation separately. The aging is a unique artisanal process: the Tempranillo ages for 36 months in American oak barrels manufactured in-house with six manual rackings by candlelight, while the Garnacha is aged for 30 months with five rackings. The result is a wine of extraordinary finesse, balance, and longevity, representing the ultimate expression of Riojan classicism adapted to contemporary palates.

Viña Ardanza Reserva

Tasting Note Visual phase: Medium-high intensity cherry red color, clean and very bright, with an elegant garnet rim that denotes its noble aging.

Olfactory phase: Nose of great intensity and complexity. Notes of ripe red fruit (cherry, currant and plum) stand out first, which quickly give way to a range of tertiary aromas: black pepper, clove, licorice, cocoa, vanilla, tobacco and subtle balsamic and toasted wood touches.

Gustatory phase: In the mouth it is fresh, balanced and harmoniously structured. Its tannins are silky, sweet and perfectly polished. A broad and velvety mouthfeel stands out, with a long and persistent aftertaste where spicy and balsamic notes reappear.

Value Points

Magnum format (1.5L) that guarantees a slower, more complex evolution and an exceptional cellaring potential of more than 15 years.

Classic Riojan blend of Tempranillo (80%) from vineyards over 30 years old and Garnacha (20%) from the prestigious La Pedriza estate.

Artisanal aging separately in American oak barrels made in-house, with manual rackings by candlelight.

Internationally endorsed with excellent scores from prestigious critics such as Robert Parker (94+ points) and James Suckling.

Service Protocol

Serve at an optimal temperature between 16ºC and 18ºC. It is recommended to decant at least 30 minutes before consumption to allow the wine to oxygenate and unfold all its aromatic complexity. Ideal to accompany roast lamb, grilled red meats, big game, traditional stews, seasoned fatty fish and cured or smoked cheeses.
