Adega Entrecantos Mateolo Tinto 2023
D.O IGP Val do Miño
Mencia Brancellao Merenzao
Description
Adega Entrecantos Mateolo Tinto is one of the most personal and vibrant creations of Roberto Rodriguez, alma mater of the Adega Entrecantos winery.
Located in the municipality of Ribas de Sil, in the province of Ourense, this small family winery of barely 2.5 hectares works with a philosophy of minimal intervention and maximum respect for the natural environment of Galicia. Although geographically located in the Bibei River subzone, within Ribeira Sacra, Roberto has opted to bottle his wines outside the strict rules of the Denomination of Origin to preserve his creative freedom and the purest and most traditional expression of the vineyard.
The vineyard from which Mateolo Tinto originates is settled on complex clay soils with the presence of slate and alluvial pebbles washed down by the Sil River, located at altitudes ranging between 20 and 750 meters above sea level. This altitude and the influence of the Atlantic climate provide exceptional freshness and acidity to the grapes. This vintage is characterized by a perfect balance between fruit ripeness and vibrant freshness.
The crafting of this Mencia monovarietal is carried out in an artisanal way. After a meticulous manual harvest in small-capacity boxes, the grapes are rigorously selected. In the winery, fermentation begins spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks and used wood vats, avoiding any type of chemical correction or chaptalization. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation naturally and is aged in used French oak barrels to prevent the wood from masking the delicacy of the fruit. The result is a red wine of extremely limited production (less than 1,500 bottles) that captures the untamed essence of the Galician landscape.
Tasting Note of Adega Entrecantos Mateolo Tinto:
Visual Phase: It presents a bright and clean cherry red color, of medium-low intensity, with a very vivid violet rim that denotes its youth and Atlantic freshness.
Olfactory Phase: On the nose, it is highly expressive and captivating. Aromas of fresh wild red fruits (raspberries, red currants, and sour strawberries) stand out in the foreground, followed by subtle floral notes of violets and a balsamic background of eucalyptus and black licorice. Light mineral touches of wet stone and a subtle spicy memory are appreciated.
Gustatory Phase: On the palate, it is light, fluid, and highly balanced. A refreshing and vertical acidity stands out, structuring the entire passage through the mouth. The tannins are fine, silky, and gentle. Flavors of fresh red fruit reappear accompanied by a mineral and balsamic touch. The finish is clean, persistent, and very refreshing, inviting another sip.
