Description

Alvar de Dios Vagüera white wine represents the ultimate expression of the unique terroir of Castilla y León. Crafted by the talented winemaker Álvar de Dios Hernández, this wine is a limited-production gem born in the small village of El Maderal, south of the border of the D.O. Toro. Sourced from a plot of barely half a hectare planted in the 1920s, this pre-phylloxera vineyard sits at an extreme altitude of 950 meters above sea level. The vines, grown on deep red clay soils, benefit from a particular microclimate protected by a cork oak forest, allowing for slow and balanced grape ripening.

The philosophy of minimal intervention is the cornerstone in the production of Vagüera. Álvar de Dios applies organic and biodynamic farming practices, respecting the natural environment and vineyard biodiversity to the fullest. Harvesting is carried out entirely by hand, selecting the best bunches in the vineyard. In the winery, the grapes are directly pressed without destemming, and the must ferments spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in used French oak barrels of 300 and 500 liters. The wine is then aged on its fine lees for a minimum of 12 months, adding a creamy texture and unparalleled aromatic complexity.

The result is an age-worthy white wine, neither filtered nor fined, distinguished by its freshness, vibrant acidity, and deep minerality. Vagüera is not just a wine; it is a sensory journey to the roots of traditional Spanish viticulture, ideal for collectors and lovers of authentic wines with soul.
